CIRCE

I've started a new pair of socks, in a new sock yarn base for Pigeonroof Studios. The new sock yarn is called CIRCE sock yarn, and it's a blend of superwash merino and nylon. I have to say, I really love this yarn, more than I thought I would. For some reason, I've felt quite snobbish towards sock yarns with nylon in them, which is ridiculous, since nylon gives sock yarn durability that it needs, especially for those people who actually wear their handknit socks and don't wear them once then lose one of them. (no, really, i'm not talking about me....)
Well, I take it all back. This yarn rocks. First of all, it dyes beautifully. Then, it knits up beautifully, too. I was worried at first, since it's much more slender than the ORIGINAL sock base, but it turns out that it's not really. It just pretends to be skinny. I'm knitting the above sock on size ones, and bear in mind that I'm a pretty loose knitter. I'm getting a fantastic cushy fabric. Plus the multiplied make-up of the yarn makes it great for cables.
The sock pattern is something I'm making up myself to offer for free on this here blog. Well, it's more like a recipie, since I'm using my basic toe-up, short-row heel recipie and tossing in a stitch pattern I got out of a stitch pattern book. Still, it's nice to show off my own yarn. :-)

Leprechaun Legs

my new knee socks. very green and stripey. I like them!

I love my new knee socks. It is, of course, way too hot to wear them right now (they're very warm), but I still love them. And knit from handspun! I don't knit nearly enough with my handspun, but when I got the beautiful superwash merino roving in the mail from FatCatKnits (on etsy), I knew that I was going to spin it up and knit knee socks for me. I like greens. :-)

The pattern is my own basic toe-up socks-- knit on size 4 needles, magic or turkish cast on, short row heels, and increasing for the calf on each side then decreasing slightly after the calf so they stay on. Twisted rib cuffs. I knit both at the same time on one circular-- my preferred way now, since it helps prevent that oh-so prevalent second sock syndrome.

I'm going to get back into blogging regularly, I promise! Especially since I have a new camera. (although I'm still figuring it out.)

I'll give a few hints: It will be only yarn, it will be beautiful, and it will be unique. I may even do a yarn club for the first time ever!
